Broad Peak Base Camp
14.07.2010
Rest day here at bc and its grey and light snow. Javi, Beni and I walked up to K2 bc (Iranian cookies at one tent), there's a small crevasse (nicely flagged) running through the middle of camp, all of us are happy to find new people to talk to and pass the time. My stomach seems happier on Pakistani food than American: if my Balti was better I'd convince Nazir to open a restaurant in Breckenridge. Lunch and dinner are three courses of somewhat identifyable dishes - and we made live eye contact with many of the ingredients last week. Beni and I are ready to summit tomorrow - talk of which elicits stern lectures from Javi on acclimitazation. And someone dies in every one of Javi's lecture/stories. Oh yes, the skiing: I'll call it "ultra direct": a crappy 20 scramble accross the glacier then 5 hrs of crampon, one ski pole one. ice axe climbing, followed by 3,500 ft. of damn good skiing. Altitude is fine except for the headaches but Javi has a "majic pill"  he says is all I need. Moving to camp one tomorrow, maybe first summit window around the 8th, but it's all inshalla. Hi to all back home in CO and WY.
